As I'm preparing for my upcoming RammDance performance in NYC, my mom, RammDance Artistic Advisor Adrienne Ramm, and I have been having Skype coaching sessions where she shares all of her skill and expertise in the Isadora Duncan repertoire and gives me the most beneficial corrections and insights, ever! (I am so lucky!)
Along with the coaching sessions, I've been watching videos of her performing the dances, to get a better sense of the quality and feeling of each dance. I absolutely LOVE this video of my mom, Adrienne, dancing Isadora Duncan's "Ballspiel" in 1980!! This is one of the dances I'll be performing in NYC on October 22! (see info below!)
The Ballspiel is a dance about the awakening of romance- the innocence of a child playing with a ball, in contrast to flirting with different suitors and experiencing those first fleeting feelings of love - this dance teeters right on the edge of both worlds!
This video is from a performance with Dances for Isadora, a company in NYC which she co-directed, and took place at the Cunningham Studios in NYC.
The lightness and buoyancy she embodies is unlike anything I've seen...you've got to check this out:
