In January of 2007, I entered into the Ballet Department at Indiana University. The program was extremely selective, (less than 40 majors for the entire department!) and holds a reputation for being the highest level ballet program within a university setting. As a freshman coming in a semester late to start school, it was not the easiest social environment to enter. There was a lot of judgement and comparison, and although there were some dancers who were genuinely kind, many were very superficial. Luckily, I made one friend who really stuck out to me as a wonderful person, who wasn’t trying to compete with me or relate on a completely superficial level.
We remained friends throughout our years at Indiana University, and then we went out separate ways. I moved back to NYC to dance while she got married and continued dancing throughout the US.
Fast forward close to 10 years, and we are now reunited and dancing together...in Hawaii of all places! Without knowing or planning, we both moved to Oahu at the same time, two and a half years ago.
Heidi Putterill, one of RammDance’s founding company members, is gorgeous inside and out! Heidi received her training at the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza de Madrid in Madrid, Spain
Here's Heidi and I in our tutus for Cinderella at Indiana University, 2007. I'm a Summer fairy and Heidi is a Fall fairy. This ballet was SO much fun to dance!
And here's Heidi and I performing Isadora Duncan's "Sister's Mazurka" at Ala Moana Centerstage last Friday night!
If you had told me, back in 2007, that Heidi and I would dance together in my own dance company in Hawaii, I would've probably NOT believed you! Just goes to show...anything can happen!
